| QUIKJOINT
is the most comprehensive connection program available.
In addition to
the widest range of connection types, it has intelligent
"Content Wizards" for automatic
design. Just select a joint type,
then enter the member sizes
and loads. Give the Connect Wizard brief details of
how to form the connection, and it's done! The Connect
Wizard will place the bolts, add stiffeners, calculate end
plate thicknesses etc....
QUIKJOINT's unique approach is the result of considerable
consultation with fabricator based
steel detailers. All their many years of experience is built in to the Connect
Wizard's knowledge base. You can be sure that QUIKJOINT will produce
practical, safe and economic
designs.
QUIKJOINT is totally interactive using state
of the art 'object oriented' graphics.
You work with a fully dimensioned,
annotated drawing. Just click on any dimension,
bolt, plate or stiffener to change any of its properties.
Insertion or
deletion is just as easy.

| QuikJoint
belongs to the QuikSoft family of computer programs
for structural analysis and steel design. QUIKJOINT is a
computer program that assists the engineer in the design of
structural steel connections. QUIKJOINT benefits from the
following. |
|
Connect
Wizard - Automatic connection design
Select a
joint type and enter the member sizes and loads. Now give
the Connect Wizard brief details of how you want to form
the connection, and it's done! The Connect Wizard will place
the bolts, add required stiffeners, calculate end plate
thickness, weld sizes, etc.
The connect Wizards have their own
intelligence. Their logic is a result of consultation with
fabricator based steel detailers. Economy and simplicity are
paramount.
Interactive
graphics - Intuitive changes
Unlike
older programs, the user works directly with the fully dimensioned
and annotated connection drawing. To change a dimension,
bolt, plate or stiffener; click on it and press the right hand
mouse button to access and change its properties. To add a
bolt row; select a centre dimension and click on the insert button
(or press the insert key). Deleting a bolt row is equally
simple.
Automatic
links to other QuikSoft programs
Export
connection details and loadings from QuikPort and read into
QuikJoint using Windows style Copy and Paste commands. Use
connect Wizard for automatic design of eaves, apex, base, moment,
and member splice connections. Look out for the new version
of QuikFrame implementing the Edit/Copy for QuikJoint
option.

design summary including unity values for each design check
followed by full calculations. You will always know what
QuikJoint has done, because you can see its calculations in every
detail.
QuikJoint is
Comprehensive
QuikJoint offers a Wider range of joint types than any
other program.
Eaves haunch, flush and extended end plate.
Haunch material cut from rolled section or plate.
Beam column moment connection. Flush and extended
plate. Column base, simple pinned and fixed.
Symmetrical or asymmetrical. Grade 8.8 or 4.6

| Where
possible, the methods used by QuikJoint are obtained from
BS5950:Part 1:1990. However, many of the design problems
encountered are outside of the scope of this document. Where
this is the case the authors have adhered to popular design
practice.
For the design of portal frame
eaves haunch and moment connections the program uses the methods
proposed in the publication: Joints in Steel Construction
Moment Connections published by the SCI in association with
the BCSA.
Portal frame apex connections are
designed to earlier recommendations outlined in the Constrado
Monograph Plastic Design of Low Rise Frames by M.R. Home and
L.J. Morris.
For the design of flexible double
web cleat, flexible end plate, simple column splice, base, and
bearing connections, the program makes use of the recommendations
of the BCSA publication Manual on Connections Volume 1 - Joints
in simple construction.
Detailed descriptions of the
numeric methods used will not be discussed here, or in the program
user guide. Full details of all checks and methods applied
are obtainable within the printed calculations. Indeed
QuikJoint calculations, are clearer, contain more references,
methods, formulae and intermediate values than most manual
calcuations. The authors of QuikJoint strongly believe this
to be the only quality assured solution.
QuikJoint can be thought of as a
sophisticated rapid calculation and presentation tool.
Ultimate responsibility of any connection design rests with the
designer. |
